Itinerary:
Day 1: Moshi to Lemosho Forest Camp
Hiking Time: 3-4 hours
Altitude: 2,650 m
After breakfast, transfer from your hotel to the Londorossi Gate for registration, then drive to the Lemosho trailhead. Begin your trek through lush rainforest to Lemosho Forest Camp. Overnight stay at the camp.
Day 2: Lemosho Forest Camp to Shira One
Hiking Time: 6-7 hours
Altitude: 3,610 m
Start your hike through the forest into the moorland zone, enjoying stunning views as you reach the Shira Plateau. Arrive at Shira One Camp for the night.
Day 3: Shira One to Shira Hut (Shira Two)
Hiking Time: 4-5 hours
Altitude: 3,840 m
Continue your trek across the scenic Shira Plateau and reach Shira Hut (Shira Two) Camp for overnight.
Day 4: Excursions from Shira Hut (Shira Two)
Hiking Time: 4-5 hours
Max Altitude: 4,700 m
Take an acclimatization hike to Lava Tower (4,600 m) or another high-altitude spot before returning to Shira Hut. This is important for adjusting to higher altitudes. Overnight at Shira Hut.
Day 5: Shira Hut to Lava Tower
Hiking Time: 4-5 hours
Altitude: 4,600 m
Depart Shira Hut and trek towards Lava Tower. This challenging stage offers excellent acclimatization. Overnight at Lava Tower Camp.
Day 6: Lava Tower to Great Barranco Valley
Hiking Time: 2-3 hours
Altitude: 3,800 m
Descend from Lava Tower to the Great Barranco Valley, with views of the Western Breach and Barranco Wall. Overnight at Barranco Camp.
Day 7: Great Barranco Valley to Karanga Camp
Hiking Time: 4-5 hours
Altitude: 4,035 m
Start with a challenging climb up the Barranco Wall, then traverse ridges and valleys to Karanga Camp. Overnight at Karanga Camp.
Day 8: Karanga to Barafu Camp to Summit to Mweka Camp
Hiking Time: 10-14 hours
Altitude: 4,650 m (Barafu Camp) to 5,895 m (Uhuru Peak) to 3,100 m (Mweka Camp)
Early start from Karanga to Barafu Camp. After a brief rest, begin your summit attempt around midnight. Reach Uhuru Peak at sunrise and then descend to Barafu Camp for rest before continuing down to Mweka Camp for the night.
Day 9: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate and Return
Hiking Time: 3-4 hours
Altitude: 3,100 m to 1,640 m
Descend through the rainforest to Mweka Gate, where you’ll receive your summit certificate. Enjoy a celebration with fruits and drinks before transferring back to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha.
